SAN ANTONIO, TX April 22 2010 — Univision Radio San Antonio and GRAMMY® Award recipients, La Mafia, are hosting La Mafia Musical Legacy: 30th Anniversary. The concert, which commemorates more than three decades of musical brilliance, will take place on Sunday, May 23, 2010 in the legendary Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or the Alamodome box office.
From its hometown of Houston, Texas, the four-time GRAMMY® Award-winning musical group La Mafia has charted a course as one of Latin music’s most influential bands. The group, who started out in the early eighties as a party band performing at Quinceañeras and weddings, would become one of the most popular Hispanic-American bands throughout the Americas. La Mafia was one of the first of its kind to tour Mexico and South America. Today, La Mafia continues its trailblazing heritage after selling more than eight million records worldwide.
“San Antonio has indeed played an important role in the band’s history,” said Dan Wilson, senior vice president and general manager, Univision Radio San Antonio. “San Antonio loves La Mafia and we are excited that the band has chosen to celebrate this milestone here in the city and honored that Univision Radio can be a part of that celebration.”
Oscar de la Rosa, lead vocalist of La Mafia, reflects on the bands 30 year anniversary, “I feel very blessed that I have been able to make a living doing what I love. It feels like it wasn't that long ago that we won most promising band in San Antonio at the TMA's, which actually was around 1981, and I feel we still have a lot of music still left to do."
Armando Lichtenberger Jr., co-founder of La Mafia commented, “I think back to 1980, and some advise that our good friend Tony Rodriguez gave us when we finished our first album which was for his label Diana Records. He said there is no stopping now. Once you put out your first album, you have start thinking of the next one and that will be our life until we're done creating. For us now the next one will be album number 38 and we are a long way from being done creating.”
